Naxals, Maoist and Menace

It all started with a bizarre incident of attacking the land lords at a small village in west benagl called naxalbari, a moment was born and the people associated with it were called naxals. It was a moment for poor against the atrocities of the "Government", a government supposed to be a collective efforts of rich and poor but unfortunately did not involve poor and tribals. Although the cause of naxals was angelic but the way employed by them was undemocratic and barbaric. Justifying naxals is like justifying phoolan devi for killing the thakurs.

The Maoist/naxal menace is increasingly becoming a big headache for the Indian government.Sometimes I feel that my country is envied by the gods, on one side we have Pakistan and on other side we have china, as if this was not enough the internal naxal problem which tantamount to terrorism is growing. The naxals are becoming bolder and determined every day.

The society usually looks up to its intellectuals for guidance, but in India the Intellectuals are always caught on a wrong foot, either it is the matter of hanging a terrorist, constructing a dam, testing nuclear weapons or the naxal violence. They always seems to be supporting the wrong side to be more precise always anti-government. I agree that the government has failed on many fronts and there are flaws in the system of democracy but it’s not beyond repair. The growing violence of naxals is a direct message to the government to start thinking about the tribals and poor people, building roads in Gadchiroli is as important as building a sea link in mumbai. Why is that the government always requires naxal attack to realize that the region lacks development, the government has become like a police force of hindi films, reaching the place after the actual action has taken place.

Naxals call themselves people's representatives but never hesitate to kill their own people if they violate their commands, they claim to struggle for the common man but take pride in beheading a cop who is also an another common man doing his duty and following the orders given to him. Naxals, Moists and Menace have become the synonyms of present times. Naxals should never forget that unlike Mao the greatest revolutionary Gandhi never used GUN to WIN.

Well written Rat.Especially the last line "Naxals should never forget that unlike Mao the greatest revolutionary Gandhi never used GUN to WIN".And truly agree with u regarding the comparison u made between the worli-bandra sea link with Gadichorli's roads. The govt should focus more on tribal areas where Naxal influence is more.

The govt should focus naxalism with utmost priority as they do with Terrorism.
The Naxals these days,we are told, are getting warfare techniques from the defunct(almost) LTTE.Govt should also take measures to stop the infiltration of LTTE across borders.

Before curbing the act of Naxals the government should take measures to take tough stand on those who support through arms and also to naxal sympathizers like the great Arundathi Roy,like the Chattisgarh govt took tough stand against Binayak Sen.These people make it tough for the government to attack the naxals as they raise the voice of violation of Human Rights if Govt does something against Naxals.
Or to prevent this the govt can go in for Guerilla warfare against them ,giving them the dose of thier own medicine.

One thing we have realised from the past is that no solution can be found to a problem with knives at each others throat. I feel that the concept of naxalism has gone hay wire , they have forgotten what they were fighting for, their aim now has become only to take up arms against the government and suppress whoever is related to it even though he might be related to the same section which they represent. Even if government wants to have developmental activities-which they were fervently fighting for- they disrupt it, they blow up rails, they kill people.
They need to get things right soon. Time and patience on the part of public is running out. People are losing their sympathy for this movement. Now they feel, it is just another power hungry group. And about intellectuals, they aren't intellectuals if they don't speak against the government and they don't speak for naxals, terrorists. If you allow them, they will even send ajmal kasab back to pakistan as a goodwill gesture.

Well written Ratnakar.

Little away from the topic as the Gandhi name was mentioned. Gandhi was that great as he is mentioned. Gandhi was not the only reason British gave India independence. They couldn't go thought ruling india after the 2 world war.

And for the people who still think Gandhi as great have a look at this blog.

I was a big believer in Gandhi. But this blog gives another perceptive.

great topic of immediate relevance to deal with rat. I completely agree with malya . The problem has past the initial phase and the few apparent intellectuals of the maoists have taken up this for their own good.

Even though UPA is ready to kick start negotiations ,maoists aren't ready to give up their rage, violence.

Its not the same voice which spoke earlier . The undiscriminated vandalization of people very much like them, and the extremist behaviour even after they see their closed gates cut open for them from the government should suffice to get alert on the intensity of the internal problem.

Their structure very much resembles the LTTE 3 decades ago. They have many Chhatradhar Mahato 's amongst them. Its high time we plan to avoid a major ealam type outbreak, of much higher magnitude.

If mistaken by government :

Another major aspect of maoist rebellion is that now by taking up the arms they have facilitated the government to gain eligibility for the use of brahmastra - "National emergency" which can be as brutal as extinction of their species.

Towards policy :

what they always aspired was land, thats the only way to go to the solution. mahatma gandhi rural employment guarantee scheme (earlier NREGA) should be exploited to the possible extent in serving the naxal needs.
Its tough to handle house-thieves so is to handle internal disturbances.

Time says it all, lets wait and watch!
